HEAT and HUMIDITY

9 Ways to Save Your Car
From the
Stress of
HEAT and HUMIDITY!

Here are some tips to help you protect your car through the heat of the summer . . .

1. Make sure you keep your tires cool in the summer by keeping them at the recommended tire pressure. Check the pressure when the tires are cold to make sure you get the proper reading.

2. Use a dashboard shield to protect your car's interior from the intense heat of the sun when it's left outside for any length of time.

3. Start your car with your air conditional turned OFF. This will put less stress on the engine.

4. Be suspicious of strange smells coming from your car. They can be warnings of fluid leakage or overheating.

5. Have your heater and radiator hoses checked annually before the summer. The heat of the engine combined with the heat of the summer can soften and destroy them, causing leaks.

6. Your radiator should be drained, cleaned, and refilled with 50% coolant (anti-freeze) and 50% water. Engine fluids should be topped.

7. Ask for the oil that your car's  manufacturer recommends for summer driving, as its thicker viscosity provides more protection against the heat.

8. Air conditioning should be checked, including the temperature of the air coming out of the vents (which should be between 45 degrees and 55 degrees F). If fog is coming out of the air conditioner, your freon levels may be low.

9. Watch your temperature gauge. If it begins to run near the "HOT" side of the scale, or you notice a difference from the normal reading, have the cooling system checked immediately. Do not continue drive.
